Description
Babcock Peach Tree is a beloved white peach for gardeners who prize fragrance, honeyed sweetness, and the melting texture of perfectly tree-ripened fruit. Its medium peaches develop creamy skin with a soft red blush, giving them an understated elegance that hints at the pale, juicy flesh within. The flavor is notably low in acid, allowing its floral aroma and natural sweetness to come forward without a sharp finish. Eaten fresh, Babcock has the delicate perfume and silky texture that make white peaches feel especially luxurious; sliced into salads or simple desserts, it adds sweetness without overwhelming other flavors. It is a particularly compelling choice for mild-winter gardens where many traditional peaches need more cold. Babcock offers the pleasure of growing a historic California favorite whose flavor still feels distinctive, refined, and wonderfully suited to warm summer days.
Requiring only 250–300 chill hours, Babcock is well suited to mild-winter gardens in USDA zones 8–10. The crop typically ripens around mid-July, with timing varying by region and season. Grow this semi-dwarf tree in full sun with excellent drainage, then water deeply and thin developing peaches to help the remaining fruit size up.
Babcock is self-fruitful and can produce without a separate pollinizer. Another peach that flowers at a similar time can nevertheless draw more bees through the planting and may support fruit set. Combining Babcock with an earlier low-chill peach also lengthens the season.
